Cyber security

Cyber security is important for Australia's national security, innovation, and prosperity.

Cyber security is important for Australia's national security, innovation, and prosperity. We need to keep our information safe, working as a nation to secure our networks and systems. We also support our technology industry to thrive and capitalise on the growing global need for cyber security experts, equipment and solutions.

Australia's approach to cyber security recognises we all have a role to play in securing our digital future – citizens, businesses and government. This is a responsibility undertaken and coordinated across the Australian Government and with state and territory governments.

The Department of Home Affairs' role is to lead the development of cyber security policy for the Australian Government, including the implementation of the Government's Cyber Security Strategy and Action Plan. We work on cyber security threats and opportunities in Australia and overseas, including critical and emerging technology.
